The advantage to a program like this is that you don’t have to install anything and you won’t lose your work if your computer crashes. Novlr is one that I’ve used, but there are many others. There are also a number of programs that allow you to write online. The only drawback is you really need to make sure you save your work often. They suggest a donation of a little over $5.00, but believe me, it’s worth way more than that. The great thing about OmmWriter is you pay what you want. As a result, the interfaces and features tend to be pretty simple and straightforward, but some (like OmmWriter) provide soothing backgrounds, relaxing music, and customizable typing sounds. OmmWriter is what is known as a zenware writing program, which are meant to help minimize distractions. You can download a free trial, and if you participate in NaNoWriMo, they sometimes offer discounts to those who cross the finish line. There are also a ton of tutorials on YouTube, so there are plenty of resources if you have trouble learning to use it. Scrivener is pretty advanced but it’s a fantastic program with lots of great features, especially if you want to write a novel. You may have to purchase Microsoft Office to get it on your computer, or you can download a free shareware version like OpenOffice or LibreOffice. Some computers come with Microsoft Word (or Pages if you use Apple products), which is a word processor that allows you to create and edit text documents.
